If You are not recycling Waste Water, then that’s our problem!

We have become accustomed to recycling waste paper, used bottles and discarded plastic, but what about Waste Water?
Across the globe, 2 out of 10 people do not have access to safe drinking water.
World Water Day is drawing attention to the growing threat of water scarcity. Some countries are making the most of every drop of water that they use – but others are still not sensitive about reusing waste water.

What Is Water Recycling?

  • Water recycling is the process of taking effluent (waste water and sewage) and treating it so that it can be reused.
  • For potable (drinkable) use, the recycled water has to be treated to a sufficiently high level suitable for human consumption.

Types of Waste Water

1. Domestic Waste Water (Sewage)

  • Domestic waste water originates from domestic household activities, it includes water that is discharged from commercial, business buildings and institutions along with ground water.
  • Water that collects from rain water can also be present in domestic waste water. The source of domestic waste water typically consists of liquid discharge from sanitary facilities, bathing, laundry and cooking.

2. Industrial Waste Water (Effluent)

  • Industrial waste water or Effluent that originates from the manufacturing process.
  • Industrial sources of waste water contain contaminants such as oils, chemicals, pesticides, silt and other byproducts.

Uses of Recycled water:

  • Agriculture
  • Landscape
  • Public parks
  • Golf course irrigation
  • Cooling water for power plants and oil refineries
  • Processing water for mills, plants
  • Toilet flushing
  • Dust control
  • Construction activities
